Just yesterday, it was announced that the Detroit Pistons were the first to strike in this year’s free agency and confirm agreements with Ben Gordan (Bulls) and Charlie Vilanueva (Bucks). The deals are only considered prinicipal agreements until the Pistons officially sign with Gordan and Villanueva next week July 8. The deal would unite the two former Uconn teammates.
Thus far, we know the details of the deal include a five-year, $55 million, deal for Ben Gordan and a five-year, $40 million, deal for forward Charlie Vilanueva. Detriot was able to make these huge pick-ups much due to the fact that had nearly $20 million in salary-cap space from the Boston trade.
Other deals getting a lot of buzz right now are: talks between Hedo Turkoglu and the Portland Trail Blazers; talks between the Knicks and point guard Jason Kidd; and finally, talks between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ron Artest (Rockets) and Trevor Ariza (Lakers).
