The US swept past Spain in the Semi-finals round of the Confederations Cup today with their 2-0 victory. Currently, Spain is ranked #1 in the world and the US is a whopping #16. This could be considered the upset of the year and maybe even the biggest upset is Soccer history. The US Soccer team was propelled to victory by Jozy Altidore’s goal in the 27th minute and Clint Dempsey’s goal in minute 74.

The victory marks the first loss for Spain in 35 international matches since 2006. It also marks the first time that US has ever beaten Spain in an international match. The US now advances to the finals and should play Brazil, unless there is an even greater upset and Brazil happens to get beaten by South Africa. This will be the first time the US has ever reached the Confederations Cup final.
